Chuck Branton Reappointment Heads To Parish Council Vote

The St. Tammany Parish Council is set to consider the reappointment of Library Board Chairman Chuck Branton this week.

Branton has served on the board during one of the most closely watched periods in the library system’s history, overseeing policy changes, the hiring of a new library director, ongoing construction projects, and expanded services aimed at veterans.

His tenure has also coincided with major changes to how challenged materials are handled within the library system, including policies that placed certain books in restricted sections requiring parental approval for minors.

The upcoming vote comes after significant public interest and engagement from residents across the parish. Council members have reportedly received thousands of emails regarding the reappointment.

Whether residents have followed the library issue closely or only from a distance, Thursday’s vote will help determine the future direction of the St. Tammany Parish Library Board and one of its most recognizable leaders.

The Parish Council is expected to take up the matter during its June 4 meeting.
