Louisiana Lawmakers Advance Bill on Coastal Restoration Funding

A bill directing additional state surplus revenue toward coastal restoration projects advanced out of committee in Baton Rouge this week, with lawmakers citing continued land loss along the Gulf Coast.
Supporters say the funding would accelerate several barrier island and marsh restoration projects already in the state’s coastal master plan.
“Every year we wait, we lose more ground, literally,” said the bill’s sponsor during committee testimony.
The bill now heads to the full chamber for a vote expected later this session.
