BATON ROUGE, La. — A Louisiana woman is facing 18 counts of bank fraud and identity theft after State Police say she used falsified Social Security numbers to collect casino jackpots while attempting to avoid overdue child support obligations.

Louisiana State Police identified the woman as 43-year-old Shamika Brown of Alexandria.

According to State Police, the investigation began after L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge reported suspected fraudulent activity to the agency’s Gaming Enforcement Division in October 2024. Investigators say the alleged activity stretched back several years.

Investigators Say 16 Jackpots Were Collected In 2020

State Police allege Brown used falsified Social Security numbers to collect 16 jackpots at L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge in 2020.

Those jackpots totaled more than $41,000.

Investigators said the false information was allegedly used in an effort to circumvent an overdue child support obligation involving the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services.

Authorities also allege Brown collected another jackpot of nearly $2,500 at a different Baton Rouge casino in 2023 using false identifying information.

$1,264 Jackpot Led To Investigation

The investigation intensified in October 2024 when State Police say Brown attempted to collect a $1,264 jackpot at L’Auberge and provided additional false Social Security numbers.

L’Auberge notified the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Division, and detectives began investigating the incident.

An arrest warrant was later obtained through the 19th Judicial District Court.

Investigator Recognizes Her At Casino Nearly Two Years Later

The case took another turn on September 21, 2026.

According to State Police, a Gaming Enforcement investigator recognized Brown at L’Auberge Casino Baton Rouge as she allegedly attempted to retrieve the same $1,264 jackpot involved in the 2024 investigation.

Brown was arrested on the outstanding warrant and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

State Police said she was booked on 18 counts of bank fraud and identity theft.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

Louisiana State Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges may be forthcoming.

The allegations against Brown have not been proven in court, and she is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case stands out not only because of the amount of money involved, but because investigators allege the activity occurred over several years and involved multiple casino jackpots.

According to State Police, what began with a report of suspected fraud at L’Auberge eventually led investigators back to jackpot claims dating to 2020 and ultimately to Brown’s arrest when she returned to the casino in September 2026.
