Lane Changes Coming To Robert Boulevard As Slidell Begins Road Repairs

SLIDELL — Drivers who use Robert Boulevard should prepare for several weeks of lane changes beginning Monday, Sept. 28, as the City of Slidell begins replacing damaged concrete roadway panels near one of the city’s busiest intersections.

The City confirmed Saturday that repairs will take place on the first block of Robert Boulevard beginning at Gause Boulevard. Crews are expected to start work at approximately 2:30 a.m. each day, allowing work to begin before the morning traffic rush.

The project will be completed in stages rather than closing the entire northbound side of Robert Boulevard at once.

From Sept. 28 through Oct. 4, the outside northbound lane will be affected. Work then moves to the middle northbound lane from Oct. 5 through Oct. 11. The final scheduled phase will affect the turning lane from Oct. 12 through Oct. 18.

The City is asking motorists to use caution while traveling through the construction area and to consider alternate routes when possible.

The location makes the work particularly important for local drivers. Robert Boulevard is a major north-south corridor through Slidell, while Gause Boulevard carries significant east-west traffic through the city. The construction area is also near the site of Slidell’s new police headquarters at 911 Robert Blvd., where the city broke ground earlier this month on a $17.5 million facility.

Barring changes to the construction schedule, the three phases of roadway work are scheduled to run through Oct. 18.

Drivers who regularly travel Robert Boulevard during the morning commute should expect changing traffic patterns throughout the three-week project.
