Heavy Rain Threat Already Disrupting Weekend Events Across Southeast Louisiana

Share your love

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA — The threat of heavy rain and possible flash flooding this weekend is already beginning to impact plans across Southeast Louisiana, with organizers canceling or changing events ahead of the approaching weather.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected from Friday through Sunday, bringing the potential for several inches of rain across portions of Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Current forecasts call for widespread rainfall totals of approximately 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas.

Saturday remains one of the biggest concerns, with periods of heavy rainfall potentially creating street flooding and problems in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

Weekend Events Begin Making Changes

With the wet weather approaching, some organizers are no longer waiting to see what happens.

Weekend events around Southeast Louisiana have begun announcing cancellations, postponements and schedule changes as organizers prepare for potentially significant rainfall.

Additional changes could be announced as the forecast becomes clearer.

St. Tammany Parish Fair Falls During Wettest Part Of Forecast

One major Northshore event happening during the expected weather is the St. Tammany Parish Fair in Covington, which continues through Sunday.

The fair has activities scheduled throughout the weekend, putting its remaining schedule directly within the period when some of the heaviest rainfall could occur.

Residents planning to attend should watch for any announcements from fair organizers as conditions develop.

The weather does not mean every community will experience flooding. Exactly where the heaviest bands of rain develop will determine which areas see the greatest impacts.

However, several inches of rain falling over a short period could quickly create problems in areas that commonly experience street flooding.

Residents across Slidell, Covington, Mandeville, New Orleans and surrounding communities should keep an eye on updated forecasts and event announcements before heading out this weekend.

TRH News will continue monitoring the forecast along with local cancellations and schedule changes as the weekend approaches.
