An 18-year-old was arrested after a firearm discharged while a group was filming social media videos inside a Slidell residence over the weekend, striking a 16-year-old in the shoulder, according to the Slidell Police Department.
Police identified the arrested man as Jarvion Evans. Investigators described the shooting as accidental and said Evans negligently discharged the firearm inside the home off Pontchartrain Drive.
Officers responded shortly after 10 p.m. The juvenile was taken to a hospital with injuries police described as not life threatening and is expected to make a full recovery.
Authorities said Evans left before officers arrived but contacted the department a short time later to turn himself in. He cooperated with investigators and showed them where he had discarded the firearm, according to police.
The department said Evans was charged and booked but did not identify the specific charges in its announcement.
Slidell Police Chief Tommy Williams warned against using firearms as props for social media videos, saying careless handling can have devastating consequences.
Evans is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
