The Rabbit Hole

Government Tracker

Local government without having to read a 247-page agenda. What is being proposed, what is coming up for a vote, what passed, and what it means for the street you live on.

Everything here is written in everyday words. The government's own wording is printed on every record too, exactly as published, so you can check it yourself.

What is local government doing near you?

Enter your home or business address to see government decisions, developments, projects, hearings and representatives that may affect you.

Your address is used to work out which districts and projects apply to you, then discarded. The Rabbit Hole does not keep a record of who searched for what, and your address is never put in the page address or shared with anyone.

A meeting record says which papers the parish published. It does not say what the council decided: the minutes are scanned documents, and how each member voted is not published in any form a computer can read.

What is on the agenda

The matters the parish has already put on a hearing date, in everyday words. This is built from the parish’s own published case list, not copied from the agenda document — always open the official agenda before you go.

Neither the parish nor the city publishes a list of how each member voted in a form a computer can read, so this tracker holds no vote counts and will not guess at them. Each decision below links to the government’s own record, which is where the result is written down.

The tracker holds 612 parish ordinances and 260 parish resolutions, read from the council’s own agendas between January 2024 and August 2026. Being on an agenda is not the same as being passed, and nothing here is marked passed.

Road and drainage work the parish is paying for

These are the jobs in the parish’s own road programme, with the money it published beside each one. This is one programme of work — it is not everything the parish spends.

Jobs in the programme
93
8 of them are drainage work; the rest are road work.
Money set aside
$10,826,800
Added up from the 93 jobs the parish put a budget figure on.
Money actually signed for
$8,608,163.27
Added up from the 81 jobs that have a signed contract price. 12 jobs have no contract price published yet, so they are not in this total.

A signed contract is not a finished job. The parish does not publish whether the work is done, or what it finally cost after any changes, so the tracker does not say.

Set aside versus signed for

The jobs where the price the parish signed was furthest from the money it had set aside. Coming in under is normal and usually good news; this is simply what the parish published.

What the money section does not have yet

A transparency page that hides its own gaps is not transparent. This is exactly what is missing, and why.

What we have now
5 jobs open for bidding and 6 closed, read from the state bid board. Each one says what work the parish wants done and when bidding closes. Alongside them, 93 road and drainage jobs from the parish’s own road programme, with the money it set aside and the price it signed for.
Who won the work
Not available. The state bid board publishes the request, not the award, and the road programme names the price but not the company. Award notices and company names would have to come from the parish’s own procurement records, which it does not publish as data.
What things cost
93 records carry a dollar figure the government published, nearly all of them road and drainage jobs. For everything else there is no figure, so the tracker shows none rather than a guess.
Budgets, payments and vendors
Not connected yet. The parish and city budgets are published as documents rather than data, and there is no public feed of cheques or vendor payments. Until one is connected, the tracker will not show vendor totals — a partial total is worse than none.
Is this everything the parish spends?
No, and it is not close. What is here is one road programme and the jobs currently out for bid. Salaries, day-to-day running costs, grants, debt payments and every other department are not in any source the tracker has been able to connect.
Change orders and final costs
Not available. These appear in council packets, which are scanned documents. The tracker links those documents where it has them rather than claiming to have read them.

Who represents you, and how they vote

The people holding the seats, taken from the parish and city’s own published lists. Enter your address above to see which of them is yours.

Neither St. Tammany Parish nor the City of Slidell publishes a list of how each member voted in a form a computer can read. So this tracker holds no vote counts, and it will not guess at them. Every law and decision here links to the government’s own record, which is where the result is written down. The Rabbit Hole does not give officials scores or ratings.

The original records

Every document the tracker has read or linked, kept in one place. The tracker stores the address of each file, never a copy, so every link opens the government’s own record.

Where this comes from

Every record here is read from a government source. We put it in everyday words and show the government’s own wording next to it. Nothing on this page is written by artificial intelligence from scratch, and nothing is filled in when the government leaves it blank.

  • St. Tammany planning & zoning cases Parish GIS layer of cases for public hearing. Gives case number, type code, meeting date and parcel geometry. Address and description are only populated on a minority of records; where the parish leaves them blank the tracker leaves them blank. Source · checked 1 week ago
  • St. Tammany hearing agendas The agenda PDF the parish publishes for each hearing date. The tracker checks whether the file exists before it links to it, and links nothing when the parish has not published one. Source · checked 1 week ago
  • St. Tammany Parish Council meetings & documents The parish's own council document centre: every council and committee meeting with its agenda, notice, minutes, agenda package and video. It records which documents exist, never what was decided in them. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • St. Tammany Parish Council agenda packages The full text of each council agenda: every ordinance and resolution by number, who put it forward and which district it affects. An agenda says what is scheduled, never how the vote went, and the tracker says no more than that. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • St. Tammany council districts & members Parish GIS council district layer, which the parish publishes with the sitting member name, phone, email, role and term dates attached. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • St. Tammany solicitations (LaPAC) Louisiana state procurement portal, filtered to St. Tammany Parish Government. Open solicitations only; the state does not publish awards here. Source · checked 1 week ago
  • St. Tammany budgeted road & drainage projects The parish road programme with the budgeted price and the contracted price for each job. It is one programme of work, not the parish budget and not a check register, and the tracker says so wherever the totals appear. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Slidell council districts City GIS district boundaries. The member names on this layer are stale, so only the geometry and district letter are taken from it; names come from the city website. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Slidell meetings calendar The city publishes its meeting calendar as structured JSON. Used for upcoming council, planning and zoning meetings. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Slidell ordinances & resolutions The city publishes adopted ordinances and resolutions as HTML index tables with number, date and description. The linked PDFs are scans, so only the index text is read and the PDF is offered to the reader as the authoritative record. Source · checked 1 week ago
  • St. Tammany building moratoriums Areas where the parish has paused new building, subdivision or rezoning, with the ordinance number and the dates it runs between. The tracker will not say whether a particular property is exempt; that is a question for the planning department. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • St. Tammany annexations Land a town has taken in from the unincorporated parish. Only the annexations the parish dated are recorded; the undated historical outlines are left out because there is nothing on them a reader could check. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Covington ordinances & resolutions The city lists its ordinances under separate "Introduced" and "Adopted" headings. That grouping is the city saying an ordinance passed, and it is the only outcome the tracker records from it. Resolutions carry no outcome, so none is shown. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Covington council meetings Covington council meeting agendas and approved minutes, by date. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Mandeville ordinances & resolutions The city publishes an adopted date beside each ordinance and resolution. Where that date is filled in the tracker records the adoption; where the city has left it blank the tracker says the outcome is not published, and never reads a blank cell as a failure. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
  • Mandeville meetings Council, planning and commission meetings with the agenda, agenda packet and minutes the city published for each. Source · checked 2 weeks ago
