A Jefferson Parish jury has convicted a Harvey man of second degree murder in the 2024 shooting death of a 21 year old Slidell man, according to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Dekias Stevenson, 23, was convicted Friday in the death of Andrew Davis IV, 21, of Slidell. Stevenson was also convicted of obstruction of justice for disposing of the gun prosecutors said was used in the shooting.
The District Attorney’s Office said Stevenson contacted Davis on Aug. 17, 2024, about purchasing marijuana but instead planned to rob him.
Davis, who was traveling with his girlfriend, agreed to meet Stevenson at an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Manhattan Boulevard in Harvey. Prosecutors said Stevenson had already contacted two friends and asked them to meet him there.
After Davis parked, Stevenson and Lavanta Carto entered the back seat of his vehicle. Prosecutors said Stevenson and Carto were armed and that Davis was also armed.
According to prosecutors, there was no heated confrontation before the first gunshot was fired inside the vehicle. Davis was fatally shot during the encounter.
The jury found Stevenson guilty as charged of second degree murder and obstruction of justice.
The verdict comes more than two years after Davis was killed.
