Heavy Police Presence Near Slidell Schools After Student Reports Possible Armed Person

A heavy police response was underway near Bayou Woods Elementary School and Carolyn Park Middle School after a young student reported seeing someone walking through the surrounding neighborhood who may have been carrying a firearm.

The individual was not seen on either school campus, according to Slidell Police. The student reportedly observed the person walking along a nearby street.

Both schools were immediately placed on lockdown as a precaution while officers flooded the surrounding area to investigate.

Police also deployed drones to search the neighborhood and determine whether there was an actual threat.

No Known Threat To Either School

As of the latest update, police said there was no known threat to either Bayou Woods Elementary or Carolyn Park Middle School.

Officers remained in the area while investigators worked to determine exactly what the student saw and whether the person reported in the neighborhood was actually armed.

The response comes as school safety remains an especially sensitive issue for parents throughout St. Tammany Parish, where even reports of a possible weapon can trigger an immediate law enforcement response.

No injuries or arrests have been reported.
