BATON ROUGE, La. — An investigation that began early Saturday morning at Louisiana State University has resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man after two people reported being raped on campus.

Ty’Juan Bovie was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on two counts of third-degree rape and two counts of unlawfully purchasing alcohol on behalf of people under 21, according to an arrest report.

The investigation reportedly began around 5 a.m. Saturday, October 3, after LSU Police learned of a reported sexual assault on campus.

Investigators interviewed both alleged victims as they worked to determine what happened during the hours leading up to the reports.

According to the arrest report, the two alleged victims had picked Bovie up the previous evening before alcohol was purchased at a convenience store. Investigators were told the group then drank for several hours.

One of the alleged victims told investigators that Bovie sexually assaulted them during the early morning hours despite not receiving consent. The arrest report alleges the victim attempted to push Bovie away multiple times.

Investigators say a second alleged sexual assault occurred afterward.

But police say part of what allegedly happened next was captured on a cellphone.

According to the arrest report, the first alleged victim was able to partially record the alleged assault of the second person. Detectives reportedly reviewed that video during their investigation.

Police later executed a search warrant at Bovie’s apartment and detained him.

During questioning, investigators say Bovie told detectives that the first alleged victim never verbally consented, but that he believed the person had given him physical or nonverbal indications of consent. According to the arrest report, when detectives asked what specific actions he interpreted that way, he could not identify them.

Investigators further allege Bovie acknowledged that the second person was incapacitated and had not given consent at the time of the alleged encounter.

Bovie was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The allegations contained in an arrest report are accusations. Bovie is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
