Man Killed During Encounter With Terrebonne Parish Deputy As State Police Investigate

CHAUVIN, La. — Louisiana State Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed during an encounter involving a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy early Sunday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Clinton Street in Chauvin. State Police detectives were requested to investigate the deputy involved shooting around 6:30 a.m.

Authorities say a physical altercation occurred during the encounter. One man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, while a Terrebonne Parish deputy suffered injuries described as non life threatening.

Investigators have not yet released details explaining what led to the confrontation or what happened immediately before the shooting. Authorities also have not publicly confirmed who fired the shot that killed the man.

The identity of the man who died and the names of the deputies involved have not been released as the investigation continues.
