Saint Paul’s Basketball Coach And Alumni Director Arrested On Domestic Abuse Battery Charge

A longtime Northshore educator and basketball coach was arrested Friday in St. Tammany Parish on a domestic abuse battery charge.

Monty Fontenot, 60, was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on September 18 on one count listed as domestic abuse battery, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office booking record.

The booking record shows Fontenot was released the same day after his bond was set at $2,500.

Fontenot currently serves as Alumni Director and head basketball coach at Saint Paul’s School in Covington. The school’s current faculty directory lists Fontenot in both positions, while its basketball program separately identifies him as the varsity head coach.

Fontenot has held multiple education and athletics positions on the Northshore.

He previously served as Head of School at Northlake Christian School and held other leadership and coaching positions during his years at the school. Records and previous reporting show Fontenot also served in athletic administration and coached boys basketball, baseball and softball at Northlake Christian.

Fontenot later served as head basketball coach at Covington High School, including during the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons.
