SLIDELL, La. — A New Orleans man convicted of rape and multiple domestic violence charges remains at large after authorities say he failed to appear for his trial in St. Tammany Parish.
A St. Tammany Parish jury found 38-year-old Brandon Justin Lee Williams guilty on all counts following a trial stemming from a Slidell Police Department investigation.
Williams was convicted of second degree rape, domestic abuse battery involving serious bodily injury, domestic abuse battery involving child endangerment and cruelty to juveniles.
The case began after Slidell police responded to a residence on Highlands Drive.
According to prosecutors, the investigation involved allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault. Evidence presented during the trial ultimately resulted in the jury returning guilty verdicts on all charges.
But Williams was not in the courtroom to hear them.
Authorities say Williams failed to appear for his trial and remains at large, meaning the jury convicted him in his absence.
Law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, are now working to locate him.
Williams’ conviction does not end the case. He will still have to be taken into custody before the court can proceed with sentencing.
Anyone who encounters Williams should not attempt to detain him and should instead contact law enforcement.
TRH News will provide updates if Williams is captured or additional information is released.
