Frank Jabbia Announces Retirement After 32 Years With St. Tammany Schools

COVINGTON, La. — St. Tammany Parish Public Schools Superintendent Frank Jabbia is retiring, bringing an end to a career spent entirely within the parish school system.

The school district confirmed Jabbia’s retirement Wednesday. Jabbia has spent 32 years with St. Tammany Parish Public Schools and has served as superintendent since October 2020. 

Jabbia began his career as a teacher and coach, spending 10 years in those roles before moving into school administration. He later served as an assistant principal and principal of Northshore High School and was named St. Tammany Parish High School Principal of the Year in 2019.

His retirement comes at a significant time for the district.

In recent weeks, the St. Tammany Parish School Board has faced calls from parents and community members for increased accountability following controversy surrounding mandatory reporting procedures and cases involving former administrators at Lyon Elementary. The board is expected to vote October 8 on whether to bring in an independent third party to examine administrative processes, communication and mandatory reporting practices throughout the district. 

Jabbia had also recently told families that additional safeguards had been implemented to strengthen reporting and documentation procedures and that the district was working with state and local agencies on training and guidance involving student safety. 

The district has not yet announced who will replace Jabbia or provided additional details about the transition.
