Slidell City Council Approves Funding for Olde Towne Streetscape Project

The Slidell City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve funding for a long-discussed streetscape improvement project in Olde Towne, clearing the way for construction to begin early next year.

The $2.1 million project includes wider sidewalks, decorative lighting, new landscaping and improved crosswalks along Erlanger and First streets, aimed at making the historic shopping district more walkable.

“Olde Towne is the heart of Slidell,” said council member Lisa Broussard. “This investment will help small businesses down there for decades to come.”

City officials say construction is expected to be completed in phases to minimize disruption to existing businesses, with the full project wrapping up by late next year.
