The National Weather Service says it is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that could develop further over the coming days, though forecasters caution it is far too early to know if or where it might make landfall.

Local meteorologists are urging residents to use this week to review hurricane supply kits and family emergency plans regardless of the system’s eventual path.

“This is a good reminder to make sure your plan is ready before you need it,” a local meteorologist said.

The Rabbit Hole will provide updates as the system develops.
