Heat Advisory Issued for St. Tammany Parish Through the Weekend

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for St. Tammany Parish through the weekend, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 108 degrees during afternoon hours.

Health officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activity during peak hours, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors and relatives.

“Heat is one of the most dangerous weather threats we deal with here, precisely because people don’t always take it seriously,” a parish health official said.

Cooling centers will be available at several parish libraries and community centers for residents without reliable air conditioning.
