Couple Accused Of Forcing Their Way Into Cruise Cabin And Attacking Family, Including 9-Year-Old Child
An Ohio couple is facing felony charges after authorities say a drunken argument aboard a cruise ship escalated into an attack on a family inside their cabin.
Gannon Jacox, 29, and his girlfriend, Brooklyn Hicks, 28, were arrested Saturday, August 15, after the unidentified ship returned to Port Canaveral, Florida.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the incident began when the couple was arguing loudly after drinking alcohol. When another passenger asked them to quiet down, Hicks allegedly went to confront the passenger outside the family’s cabin. According to investigators, Jacox followed Hicks while recording the confrontation on his cellphone and allegedly encouraged her to “beat them up.” Authorities say the couple then pushed their way into the cabin, where two adults and their 9-year-old child were staying.
During the fight that followed, Jacox allegedly struck all three family members, including the child. Hicks is accused of throwing punches and striking at least one victim. An arrest affidavit reportedly states that one victim had red marks on her face following the confrontation. None of the family members suffered serious injuries.
Jacox sustained a significant injury to his eye during the fight. Investigators have not determined publicly whether it was caused by one of the victims defending themselves or accidentally by Hicks as she threw punches.
Jacox was charged with burglary with battery and child abuse without great bodily harm, and his combined bond was set at $31,000. Hicks was charged with burglary with battery and misdemeanor battery by touching or striking, and her bond was set at $6,000. Both were booked into the Brevard County Jail. Public records indicate Jacox was released Sunday and Hicks was released Monday.
Authorities have not identified the cruise ship or cruise line involved in the incident. The allegations against Jacox and Hicks have not yet been proven in court.
