Prosecutors Prepare to Present Evidence Against Man Accused of Killing Charlie Kirk

The man accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk is expected back in a Utah courtroom this week as prosecutors begin laying out the evidence they say supports sending the case to trial.

A five-day preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin Monday for 23-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is charged with aggravated murder in connection with Kirk’s September 2025 death at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty if he is convicted.

The hearing will give prosecutors their first opportunity to publicly present much of the evidence gathered during the investigation, including forensic testing, surveillance video, witness testimony, autopsy findings, and messages they allege Robinson sent before and after the shooting. According to court filings, investigators also claim DNA matching Robinson was found on multiple parts of the rifle allegedly used in the attack.

Robinson has not yet entered a plea. The purpose of the preliminary hearing is for a judge to determine whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence to establish probable cause for the case to proceed to trial. It is not a determination of guilt or innocence.

Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, and his parents are expected to attend the hearing, marking the first time they will be in the courtroom with the man accused of killing him. The proceedings will be livestreamed after a judge denied defense requests to close the hearing to the public.

The high-profile case has drawn national attention since Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at a public event. If the judge finds probable cause, Robinson will be ordered to stand trial on the charges.
