SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A U.S. Air Force service member has died after falling from the rafters of the Alamodome during a military demonstration before Saturday night’s football game between the University of Texas at San Antonio and Navy.
The incident occurred October 17 during UTSA’s annual Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans game.
Four military personnel were participating in a rappelling demonstration from the stadium’s rafters when one of them descended uncontrollably and struck the field below.

Emergency personnel immediately responded and provided medical assistance before transporting the service member to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Nellis Air Force Base Public Affairs confirmed the death Sunday. The service member was assigned to Detachment 2 of the 6th Combat Training Squadron, an Air Force unit that trains tactical air controllers.
The demonstration took place in front of thousands of spectators. The incident delayed kickoff by approximately 10 minutes.
UTSA officials expressed condolences to the service member’s family, fellow military personnel and those who witnessed the accident.
The Air Force has not publicly identified the deceased service member. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall is underway.
