Annual Blessing of the Fleet Draws Hundreds to Slidell Harbor

Hundreds of residents gathered at Slidell Harbor this weekend for the annual Blessing of the Fleet, a decades-old tradition honoring the parish’s fishing and boating community.

Dozens of decorated boats paraded through the harbor before a local clergy member offered a blessing for safety on the water throughout the coming season.

“This event connects us to what makes this community special,” said one longtime participant. “Generations of families come out for this every year.”

Organizers say attendance this year was among the largest in recent memory.
