St. Tammany Parish Issues Voluntary Evacuation Notice for Low-Lying Areas

Parish emergency management officials issued a voluntary evacuation notice Tuesday evening for residents in low-lying areas near Bayou Liberty and the Tchefuncte River, citing forecasts of heavy rainfall and rising water levels over the next 24 hours.

“We want folks to have plenty of time to make a decision for their family,” said parish emergency management director Cheryl Landry. “This is voluntary right now, but conditions can change quickly.”

Sandbags are available at three parish distribution sites, and shelters will open if conditions worsen. Residents are encouraged to sign up for parish emergency alerts and monitor local forecasts closely over the coming days.
