41 Men Showed Up in Just 6 Days Thinking They Were Meeting Children, Chris Hansen Says
More than 20 years after To Catch a Predator first shocked the nation, Chris Hansen says the problem is far from over.
Speaking about a recent undercover operation in Florida, Hansen revealed that 41 men showed up in just six days after believing they were communicating online with children.
Think about that for a moment.
41 people, in less than a week.
According to Hansen, many of those arrested looked like ordinary people you might pass in a grocery store, a restaurant, or standing in line at a store without giving them a second thought. That’s exactly what makes these investigations so disturbing.
The operation is another reminder that online predators aren’t some distant problem. They’re often hiding in plain sight, using social media, messaging apps, and other online platforms to target children.
In a separate Florida operation, Hansen partnered with law enforcement in an undercover sting that resulted in even more arrests after suspects allegedly traveled to meet who they believed were children.
Despite decades of public awareness, televised stings, and hundreds of arrests over the years, Hansen says people continue taking the risk, believing they won’t get caught.
Parents are encouraged to stay actively involved in their children’s online activity, know who they’re communicating with, and have open conversations about internet safety.
