ICE Operation Leads to 70 Arrests Across Mississippi in Child Exploitation Crackdown

Federal, state and local authorities arrested 70 people across Mississippi during a massive two week ICE led operation targeting child exploitation suspects and previously convicted sex offenders.

Operation Muddy Waters was led by ICE Homeland Security Investigations and targeted crimes involving the solicitation of children, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material and violations by previously convicted sex offenders.

Investigators also executed multiple search warrants and seized more than 50 electronic devices for forensic examination. One child was recovered from what authorities described as an active sextortion scheme.

The investigation also uncovered additional cases involving suspects accused of traveling across state lines to meet children for sexual activity, livestreaming child exploitation and sharing or soliciting child sexual abuse material.

“Those who choose to hide behind a computer screen to exploit children will not remain hidden,” HSI Gulfport Assistant Special Agent in Charge Matthew Reidell said.

Authorities say additional investigations generated during Operation Muddy Waters remain ongoing.
