LSU Student Arrested After Alleged School Shooting Threat During Skip Bertman Memorial
BATON ROUGE, La. An 18 year old LSU student was arrested after police say a social media post threatening a school shooting prompted a major security response on campus Tuesday night.
LSU Police identified the student as Devriana Thomas. Investigators say the threatening post was made on Instagram from inside the LSU Student Union at approximately 8 p.m.
According to police, Thomas admitted making the post and said she was frustrated because she was unable to receive a package at the Student Union.
The threat came while hundreds of people were gathered nearby at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a Celebration of Life honoring legendary LSU baseball coach Skip Bertman.
The situation prompted security teams to escort several public officials from the building, including Gov. Jeff Landry, First Lady Sharon Landry, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux and Baton Rouge Mayor President Sid Edwards.
Thomas was taken into custody and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of terrorizing and menacing.
LSU Police said investigators ultimately determined there was no active or credible threat to the campus community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
