Commissary Worker Arrested After Allegedly Bringing Contraband Into St. Tammany Jail

A worker at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center has been arrested after investigators say she brought illegal contraband into the jail.

Tinaja Taylor, 24, was arrested Thursday, August 6, and booked on two counts of taking contraband to and from a penal facility.

Taylor worked inside the correctional center but was not directly employed by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office. She worked for an outside vendor contracted to provide commissary services at the facility.

Authorities have not released details about what type of contraband was allegedly brought into the jail.

Sheriff Bret Ibert said the safety and security of the correctional facility is taken seriously and that bringing contraband inside puts corrections deputies, staff and inmates at risk.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities say additional charges are possible if investigators determine others were involved.
