Border Patrol Search Enters St. Tammany, One Suspect Still At Large
The overnight search for the handcuffed Border Patrol detainee who escaped federal custody has now extended into St. Tammany Parish.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, K-9 teams tracked the remaining escapee from Tangipahoa into St. Tammany Parish along U.S. Highway 190 near Highway 1077. The dogs eventually lost the track, and the search was called off shortly after midnight.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is now outside its jurisdiction because the incident belongs to the U.S. Border Patrol. Any future updates will come from the federal agency.
Authorities previously announced that one of the two detainees who escaped Monday morning has been recaptured. The second detainee remains at large as the search continues.
