Two Suspects Escape Federal Custody Near Ponchatoula, Massive Search Underway

A multi-agency manhunt was underway in the Ponchatoula area after two men escaped from federal custody Monday afternoon.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the suspects escaped while being transported by a federal agency near Interstate 12, Fire Tower Road, and CC Road.

Authorities said both men were Hispanic, barefoot, and still handcuffed in front.

One suspect was last seen wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt and khaki shorts. The second suspect was last seen wearing a camouflage shirt.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said the transport was handled by a federal agency, and the case is not related to any Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation.

Officials had not released information about why the suspects were in federal custody.

As of Monday evening, one of the two suspects has been taken back into custody. The search for the second suspect continues.
