St. Tammany Woman Booked on Attempted First-Degree Murder of a Police Officer After Deputy Struck by Vehicle

A 26-year-old Destrehan woman is facing an expanded list of charges, including Attempted First-Degree Murder of a Police Officer, after allegedly striking a St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy with her vehicle during an attempted getaway, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Savanna McGee was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on Monday, August 3. Jail records show she is being held on charges including Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Flight From an Officer, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Driving Under Suspension, Resisting a Police Officer With Force or Violence, Unauthorized Use of a Moveable, Simple Battery, and Battery of a Police Officer.

Authorities initially reported that deputies responded to the 100 block of Windward Passage after receiving reports of an intoxicated woman attempting to leave a residence in a vehicle. Investigators say that as a responding deputy attempted to remove McGee from the vehicle, she shifted into reverse, striking the deputy before fleeing the scene. A brief pursuit ended near Oak Harbor Boulevard and Oak Court, where she was taken into custody after allegedly continuing to resist arrest. Officials said the deputy suffered minor injuries.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office inmate booking system briefly listed the charge as First-Degree Murder. That information was later corrected, and the charge now reflects Attempted First-Degree Murder of a Police Officer. No bond has been set, with jail records indicating bond will be determined by a judge.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
