6-Month-Old Baby Safely Recovered After Babysitter Allegedly Abducts Infant Across State Lines
A 6 month old baby is safe after authorities say 22 year old Jasmine O’Sullivan allegedly abducted the infant, sparking a multistate search that ended Thursday night with the child being safely recovered.
According to investigators, O’Sullivan allegedly used the name of an uninvolved person to gain the trust of the baby’s mother before babysitting the child Thursday in West Lafayette, Indiana. Authorities say O’Sullivan then left the area with the infant, prompting an urgent search.
Police later received a tip that O’Sullivan and the child were traveling by Greyhound bus to Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville Police, SWAT officers, and specialized task force personnel coordinated to intercept the bus upon its arrival.
When the bus arrived around 10:15 p.m., officers safely recovered the child without injury. The infant was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital as a precaution before being reunited with family.
O’Sullivan, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was taken into custody and is facing a federal kidnapping charge, according to the FBI. Authorities say additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
Officials praised the teamwork between multiple law enforcement agencies, saying their coordinated response led to the safe recovery of the child and a successful end to the multistate search.
