Viral Claim: Barnett Jenkins Says He Paid $300 a Week Until He Asked for a Temporary Break, Then Says a Judge Ordered $13.49 a Month

A father’s story is going viral after he claimed a request for temporary financial relief ended with a child support order that was dramatically lower than what he says he had already been paying voluntarily.

According to Barnett Jenkins, he had been giving the mother of his child $300 a week to help support their daughter. After falling on hard times financially, Jenkins says he asked if he could reduce those payments to $150 a week for just two months while he got back on his feet.

Jenkins says she refused the request and instead filed for court ordered child support.

What happened next caught him completely off guard.

According to Jenkins, the court reviewed the case and ordered him to pay $13.49 per month in child support. He later shared what appears to be an official Illinois child support payment showing that amount, and the post quickly spread across social media.

Jenkins also says he has his daughter three days a week, takes her to and from school, and helps pay daycare expenses. He believes those factors, along with his financial situation, played a role in the court’s decision.

The case has sparked intense debate online. Some argue the outcome shows Jenkins was voluntarily paying far more than the law required and that asking for a short term reduction should not have led to a court filing. Others believe there is likely more to the story than what has been shared publicly.

The Rabbit Hole has not seen court records confirming the order or the circumstances Jenkins describes, and the court’s reasoning has not been publicly released. Jenkins’ account has already become one of the internet’s latest flashpoints over child support, co parenting, and whether informal agreements between parents are worth the risk.
