Louisiana Voters Choose Senate Nominees as Runoff Results Are Called

Louisiana voters have made their decision.

Republican Congresswoman Julia Letlow has won the Republican U.S. Senate runoff, defeating State Treasurer John Fleming to become the GOP nominee for the November general election. Letlow entered the race with the endorsement of President Donald Trump and support from several of Louisiana’s top Republican leaders.

On the Democratic side, Jamie Davis has won his party’s runoff and will face Letlow in November.

With Louisiana remaining one of the nation’s strongest Republican states, Letlow now heads into the general election as the early favorite. Her victory also marks the end of John Fleming’s bid for the Senate seat after a hard-fought campaign between two well-known conservative candidates.

As unofficial election returns continue to be finalized across the state, today’s results officially set the stage for Louisiana’s U.S. Senate showdown this November.
