DOTD Launches Public Survey for I-12 Corridor Master Plan

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is asking residents to help shape the future of Interstate 12 by participating in a public survey as part of the development of the I-12 Corridor Master Plan.

According to DOTD, the plan will guide transportation investments along the I-12 corridor over the short, medium, and long term. The effort is designed to evaluate current conditions, identify future transportation needs, and develop strategies to address congestion, safety concerns, and mobility throughout the corridor.

Interstate 12 serves as a major east-west route stretching approximately 85 miles from Baton Rouge to Slidell. The highway functions as a key bypass for Interstate 10 and supports both freight and passenger travel across Southeast Louisiana. It also serves as an important evacuation route during emergencies and connects with major transportation corridors including I-10, I-55, U.S. 190, and I-59.

DOTD says the study area includes the entire length of I-12 as well as the seven-mile segment of I-10 between I-59 and the Mississippi state line.

Key areas of focus for the master plan include roadway safety, infrastructure needs, traffic congestion, intelligent transportation systems, and long-term mobility improvements. Public input gathered through the survey will help determine priorities and guide future investments along the corridor.

The agency says the final plan will include a prioritized list of potential improvements, implementation strategies, and possible funding sources to support future projects.

Residents who regularly travel I-12, commute to work, operate businesses, or use the corridor for regional travel are encouraged to participate in the survey and provide feedback on transportation needs and concerns.

Survey responses will be used as part of the planning process as DOTD develops a long-term vision for one of Louisiana’s most heavily traveled transportation corridors.
