Man Arrested After Pursuit Linked to Alleged Shooting at Officers in Slidell

A man wanted on parole violations related to previous sex offense convictions was arrested Friday following a police pursuit that ended at a Red Roof Inn in Port Allen.

According to authorities, Charles Mangrum was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a peace officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officials say the pursuit was connected to a U.S. Marshals operation. During the incident, Mangrum allegedly fired at law enforcement officers in Slidell before fleeing the area.

The pursuit eventually came to an end in Port Allen, where Mangrum was arrested without further incident.

No injuries to law enforcement officers have been reported. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the pursuit have not yet been released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
