Tall Ships Arrive Near New Orleans Ahead Of America’s 250th Celebration
Massive tall ships traveling to New Orleans for the nationwide SAIL 250 celebration have officially been spotted passing through St. Bernard Parish as excitement builds ahead of the upcoming festivities.
According to St. Bernard Parish Government, multiple historic vessels are currently making their way upriver toward New Orleans as part of the national celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary.
Two ships, the Gloria and the BAP Unión, are already docked across the river from Chalmette and can reportedly be seen from the Chalmette Monument and the levee in Arabi.
Another ship, the Esmeralda, was expected to pass through St. Bernard Parish later in the day, giving residents along the river a rare opportunity to witness one of the world’s most iconic styles of sailing vessels up close.
Officials say the SAIL 250 event will bring an international fleet of tall ships to New Orleans from May 27 through June 1 as part of the historic national celebration.
Residents can also track the ships live online as they continue traveling toward New Orleans.
