Two Sentenced to Prison in Deadly St. Tammany Fentanyl Overdose Case

A fatal overdose in St. Tammany Parish has now resulted in two prison sentences, closing a case that investigators say shows just how deadly fentanyl has become in the area.

The victim, 26-year-old Dustin Banks, was found dead in December 2024 after ingesting a mixture of fentanyl, para-fluorofentanyl, and heroin. Authorities say the drugs he took were obtained the night before his death.

Prosecutors say Paige Nicole Andrews, 28, played a central role in the events leading up to the overdose. She has now been sentenced to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. Her co-defendant, 25-year-old Dustin Michael Carver of Slidell, received a 15-year sentence tied to the distribution of the drugs.

The investigation relied heavily on digital evidence and surveillance footage. Detectives were able to place both suspects at Banks’ home shortly before the drugs were used. Phone records later revealed messages that raised concerns among investigators, including conversations about being identified after the overdose.

Banks had reportedly just completed a stay in rehab days before his death. His mother told the court she found him unresponsive in bed, a moment she says changed her life forever.

District Attorney Collin Sims said cases like this are becoming more common as fentanyl continues to spread, calling it a substance that is devastating families across the region. He emphasized that those connected to deadly overdoses will continue to face serious consequences.
