TSA Workers Finally Set to Get Paid After Weeks Without Pay During Shutdown
Transportation Security Administration workers who have been working without pay during the ongoing government shutdown are expected to begin receiving paychecks starting Monday, March 30, according to federal officials.
The update comes after weeks of uncertainty for thousands of TSA employees across the country who continued reporting to work without compensation as funding negotiations in Washington stalled.
A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed that the process to pay TSA workers has already begun, with employees expected to start seeing money hit their accounts as early as today.
Officials say the situation had already taken a toll on the workforce. More than 500 TSA officers reportedly left their positions during the shutdown, while thousands of others called out due to financial strain and frustration.
At one point, over 10 percent of TSA workers nationwide were absent in a single day, with the highest callout rate reaching more than 12 percent just days earlier.
The shutdown, which began February 13, stemmed from a funding deadlock in Congress tied to immigration enforcement disputes.
While pay is now being restored, the impact of weeks without income has raised concerns about long-term staffing, morale, and the stability of airport security operations moving forward.
