Biden’s Title IX Rule Allowing Biological Males In Girls’ Spaces Officially Defeated
A years-long legal battle over one of the Biden Administration’s most controversial education policies has officially come to an end.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill announced that the final appeals attempting to revive the Biden Administration’s 2024 Title IX rule have been dismissed, effectively ending the federal government’s effort to expand Title IX protections to include gender identity.
Opponents of the rule argued it would have allowed biological males access to girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and athletic competitions while forcing schools to adopt policies many parents, teachers, and school districts strongly opposed.
Louisiana became the first state in the nation to challenge the rule in federal court, arguing the administration was attempting to rewrite Title IX far beyond its original intent.
More than 17 Louisiana school districts joined the lawsuit.
In June 2024, a federal judge issued the first injunction blocking the rule. The case eventually reached the United States Supreme Court, which sided with Louisiana by allowing the injunction to remain in place while the legal fight continued.
In January 2025, a federal court vacated the rule nationwide. With the remaining appeals now dismissed, that decision becomes final, bringing an end to the Biden Administration’s Title IX rewrite.
Attorney General Murrill celebrated the outcome as a major victory for women and girls.
“Two years ago, I fought the Biden administration all the way to the United States Supreme Court when Biden tried to rewrite Title IX by allowing men in girls’ bathrooms and locker rooms—and I won,” Murrill said. “I’m dismissing that suit because the Biden Title IX Rule is finally and completely dead.”
Supporters of the legal challenge argued the rule threatened the fairness of women’s sports, undermined privacy protections for female students, and attempted to impose sweeping social policies on schools without congressional approval.
Supporters of the rule argued it provided additional protections for transgender students and helped address discrimination in educational settings.
With the final appeals now dismissed, the legal fight appears to be over, marking a significant victory for states that opposed the Biden Administration’s interpretation of Title IX.
