Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is officially returning to LSU football under new head coach Lane Kiffin, according to multiple reports Wednesday night. Orgeron will serve as a special assistant to recruiting and defense.
Coach O led LSU to the 2019 national championship with one of the most dominant teams in college football history, finishing 15 and 0 behind stars like Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson. He finished his LSU tenure with a 51 and 20 record before being dismissed after the 2021 season.
The move reunites Orgeron and Kiffin, who previously coached together at USC and Tennessee. LSU officials say Orgeron’s role will heavily focus on recruiting Louisiana talent and assisting defensively.
Many LSU fans online are already celebrating the return of the popular South Louisiana native nicknamed “Coach O.”
