Facebook Suffers Major Outage, Users Worldwide Report Login Failures and “Query Error” Messages
Facebook users around the world experienced widespread issues Friday morning as thousands reported being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts and unable to log back in.
According to outage tracking websites, reports began surging around 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, with users across multiple countries reporting similar problems. Many users attempting to access Facebook were met with error messages, including the now widely reported “Query Error” notification.
Some users reported being forcibly signed out of their accounts without warning, while others encountered messages stating that pages were unavailable or that login requests could not be processed. Complaints quickly spread across other social media platforms as users attempted to determine whether the issue was isolated or part of a larger outage.
More than 100,000 outage reports were logged during the disruption, making it one of the largest Facebook service interruptions reported this year. While some users also reported issues with Facebook Messenger, reports regarding Instagram appeared to be less widespread.
As of publication, Meta had not publicly explained the cause of the outage.
For millions of users, the incident served as a reminder of just how heavily modern communication, business promotion, community groups, and news distribution rely on a single social media platform. Despite the disruption, essential services, banking systems, emergency communications, and other critical infrastructure remained unaffected.
The cause of the outage remains unknown, and it is unclear when all affected users will regain normal access to their accounts.
