Marrero Woman Accused of Using AI Generated Nudes, Rape Threats, and Extortion Scheme Arrested in Livingston Parish
A 29 year old Marrero woman is facing multiple felony charges after Livingston Parish investigators say an extensive harassment and extortion investigation led them to an unexpected suspect.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, Haydee Ortiz was arrested following an investigation into online threats, harassment, extortion, and the alleged use of artificial intelligence to create fake nude images of victims.
Investigators say one victim received repeated threats of rape and other bodily harm unless money was paid to prevent the attacks from happening. Authorities also allege AI generated nude photos and videos depicting one of the victims were created and distributed to numerous family members and friends.
As the investigation progressed, deputies say the threats escalated, with additional messages allegedly targeting one victim’s employment in an effort to have them fired.
Because investigators believed some of the activity may have involved individuals overseas due to past relationships and acquaintances in Greece, Homeland Security assisted the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.
Sheriff Jason Ard said the case took an unexpected turn once investigators began receiving records and subpoena returns from the online platforms allegedly used to send the threatening messages.
According to the sheriff, evidence ultimately led investigators back to Ortiz, who had initially been believed to be one of the victims in the case.
Authorities allege Ortiz was responsible for creating the fake online accounts, producing the AI generated nude images and videos, sending rape threats, and carrying out multiple extortion attempts.
Ortiz was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on one count of unlawful dissemination of AI generated nude photos, one count of online impersonation, one count of injuring public records, five counts of extortion, and one count of domestic stalking.
Investigators seized multiple electronic devices during the investigation, and Sheriff Ard says additional charges could still be filed as digital evidence continues to be examined.
Ortiz has since bonded out of jail after a judge set her bond at $150,000.
