New Iberia Police Chief Todd D’Albor Dies After Years of Dedicated Service

NEW IBERIA, La. — The New Iberia Police Department is mourning the loss of Chief Todd D’Albor, whose decades of service to law enforcement left a lasting impact across south Louisiana.

Chief D’Albor devoted more than 30 years to law enforcement, serving with multiple agencies throughout the region before making history in 2017 as the first Chief of Police of the reestablished New Iberia Police Department.

His appointment marked a new chapter for the city after the department had been dissolved in 2004. Working alongside Mayor Freddie DeCourt, Chief D’Albor helped rebuild the agency from the ground up, overseeing everything from purchasing the department’s first equipment to developing its officers, policies, and vision for the future.

Throughout his career, Chief D’Albor earned the respect of fellow officers, public officials, and the communities he served through his leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public service.

In a heartfelt statement, members of the New Iberia Police Department described him as more than a chief, calling him a mentor, friend, and servant to the community whose legacy will continue to guide the department for years to come.

The department also reflected on his determination during his final days, saying he remained dedicated to his officers and the agency until the very end.

Chief D’Albor will be honored with full law enforcement honors. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
