New Orleans Police Officer Accused Of Stealing More Than $111,000 Through Payroll Fraud

A New Orleans Police Department officer has been arrested following a joint investigation that authorities say uncovered more than $111,000 in fraudulent overtime payments.

Louisiana State Police announced Friday that 39-year-old Senior Police Officer Brandon Coleman was arrested following an investigation conducted by the Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division and the New Orleans Office of Inspector General.

The investigation began in April after the Inspector General’s Office opened an inquiry into allegations of payroll fraud involving Coleman.

Investigators say they discovered discrepancies between overtime hours Coleman reported and the hours he actually worked. Authorities also allege that Coleman’s reported work locations did not match his actual locations during some of the overtime periods he claimed.

According to investigators, Coleman received more than $111,000 in fraudulent overtime payments between December 2024 and December 2025 and submitted false public records to support those claims.

Coleman was arrested Friday, August 7, and booked into the Orleans Justice Center on:

• 325 counts of Filing False Public Records

• 23 counts of Public Payroll Fraud

• 1 count of Malfeasance in Office

• 1 count of Theft

New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said NOPD fully cooperated with the independent investigation and will continue cooperating as the case moves forward.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill confirmed that her office will prosecute the case.

Coleman is accused of 350 criminal counts in total stemming from the investigation.
