Slidell’s newest family attraction opened to the public Saturday morning, as dozens of families lined up before sunrise for the ribbon-cutting of the new splash pad at Fritchie Park.

The $850,000 project was funded through a mix of parish recreation funds and a state matching grant, and features more than a dozen interactive water elements designed for children ages two through twelve.

“This is exactly the kind of investment our families have been asking for,” said parish recreation director Mark Duplessis. “It gives kids a safe, free place to cool off all summer long.”

The splash pad will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through September, weather permitting, and admission is free to the public.
