NOPD Chief Highlights Crime Drop as Multi-Agency Public Safety Effort Continues
New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says crime continues to decline across the city, citing proactive policing efforts and recent enforcement operations targeting repeat offenders.
The reduction in crime, however, has come during a period of significant cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies.
Over the past several months, the Louisiana State Police have maintained an increased presence in New Orleans, assisting with patrols, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, and targeted operations. The Louisiana National Guard has also continued supporting public safety efforts by assisting with security-related duties, allowing more local officers to focus on policing responsibilities.
State officials have repeatedly described the crime reduction as the result of a coordinated effort involving state and local agencies working together.
During a recent interview, Kirkpatrick discussed NOPD’s role in those efforts, highlighting recent arrests, ongoing proactive policing, staffing challenges, overtime reforms, and the department’s expanding drone program.
While NOPD remains the city’s primary law enforcement agency, the recent decline in crime has occurred alongside the expanded involvement of the Louisiana State Police and the Louisiana National Guard, both of which have played visible roles in the city’s public safety strategy.
