Prairieville Man Convicted of Child Rape, Faces Mandatory Life Sentence
An Ascension Parish jury has found 43-year-old Joshua Bleakley of Prairieville guilty of first degree rape of a child under the age of 13, along with 14 counts of aggravated crimes against nature, following a trial stemming from a years long investigation.
According to prosecutors, the case began in April 2019 when a complaint was made at the Ascension Parish Courthouse alleging that a girl under the age of 13 had been sexually assaulted. Detectives interviewed witnesses during the investigation and later obtained what prosecutors described as a detailed confession from Bleakley regarding the allegations. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
The guilty verdict was returned on July 23 after a jury trial in Ascension Parish. Assistant District Attorneys Lana Chaney and Adam Koenig prosecuted the case before Judge Steven Tureau.
Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for October 19, 2026. Under Louisiana law, a conviction for first degree rape of a victim under the age of 13 carries a mandatory life sentence.
