St. Tammany Parish Grand Jury Indicts Two Men in Separate Child Sexual Assault Cases

St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Collin Sims announced that a grand jury has returned indictments against two men accused in separate cases involving victims under the age of 13.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, 33 year old Vernon Lee Taylor Jr. of Mandeville and 58 year old Carlos Oviedo of Covington were both indicted on multiple felony charges, including First Degree Rape. The cases were investigated by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Officials say both men are expected to appear for formal arraignments in the 22nd Judicial District Court.

District Attorney Sims stated that the indictments were handed down by a St. Tammany Parish Grand Jury following presentation of evidence in the cases.
