Teen Girl Killed After Police Pursuit Ends in Violent Bogalusa Crash
A late-night police pursuit in Bogalusa ended in tragedy after a fleeing vehicle crashed into a utility pole, killing a teenage passenger and seriously injuring the driver.
Louisiana State Police say the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on April 27 near West 9th Street and Avenue G. Troopers were asked by the Bogalusa Police Department to investigate after officers attempted to stop a 2004 Nissan 350Z for a traffic violation.
According to investigators, the driver refused to pull over, leading officers on a pursuit through the area. During the chase, the Nissan left the roadway and slammed into a utility pole.
Authorities identified the passenger who died at the scene as 16-year-old Destiny M. Matran of Bogalusa.
State Police said both occupants were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Investigators say the case is still active, and findings will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review of possible charges.
Troopers also used the incident to remind drivers that fleeing law enforcement can quickly become deadly and that wearing a seatbelt can significantly improve survival in serious crashes.
