Unauthorized Alert Sent After Slidell Fire Account Compromised, Police Investigating

The Slidell Police Department is investigating after an unauthorized alert was sent out from a compromised account tied to St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1.

According to officials, the issue started Wednesday night when a fire department employee’s account on an emergency management system was accessed by an unknown source. That access led to an alert being sent out that was not authorized.

Right now, officials say they do not know exactly what was sent in that alert.

Fire Chief Chris Kauffman said the employee acted quickly, changing their password as soon as the breach was discovered. From there, the situation was handed over to police, and a broader investigation began.

The system involved is used by multiple first responder agencies to manage emergencies and communicate with schools, which is why this is being taken seriously.

In a statement, the department said they are committed to transparency and apologized for the incident, emphasizing that multiple agencies are now involved in figuring out exactly what happened and how.

At this time, the investigation is still ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
