Veteran firefighter killed after crash near Chef Pass Bridge reopening, authorities say
A veteran firefighter has died following a crash near the recently reopened Chef Menteur Pass Bridge, according to authorities. The incident happened shortly after the bridge was reopened to traffic following weeks of structural repair work and closure concerns.
Reports indicate the firefighter struck an object while traveling near the bridge area. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the firefighter later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The identity of the firefighter has not yet been widely released as agencies continue notifying family members and coworkers.
